CYO (Youth Ministry)

St. Clement of Rome CYO

Our CYO had a great time at Ship Island on Wednesday, July 12.  Hopefully we will hit the beach again next summer!

From June 19-25, several members of our CYO traveled to San Antonio for a week of service. They truly were the hands and feet of Jesus as they reached out to those in need.  Acts of service included manual labor and relational ministry at the Respite Care House, a home for abused or neglected children with special needs; sorting donations at the San Antonio Foodbank; manual labor and relational ministry at St. PJ's Children home, a home for children who have experienced traumatic abuse or neglect, and cleaning and painting the kitchen at Our Lady of Guadalupe church. Thanks to all who participated, planned, and supported our trip through prayer and donations.

Our CYO made quite a statement with their mannequin challenge. We decided to incorporate the 7 sacraments to show what we believe. Many thanks to Archbishop Gregory Aymond and Archbishop Hughes for making time in their busy schedules to join us for this!

Last year our CYO started a tradition of making a music video on the second night of our winter retreat. The idea is that songs can be very powerful--but without any action, they are just good lyrics with a catchy melody. To go along with our retreat theme of "Fear No Evil," (Psalm 27) we chose Stephen Curtis Chapman's song "Warrior" to remind us that we must stand strong and fight to defend our Catholic faith, in a world that so often tries to break us down. Our youth had a blast acting this out, and they did a great job!

St. Clement CYO is a group of teens in grades 8-12 who together serve and praise God while strengthening their faith life through prayer, service and friendship. The most visible and consistent gathering is the weekly 5:00pm Sunday Mass.  Here, teens have the opportunity to serve through singing in the youth choir, being a lector, Eucharistic minister, or usher.  Our CYO meets regularly after the 5 PM Mass.

Other events include service, social, spiritual, or sports events.  St. Clement CYO is also a regular participant in Archdiocese of New Orleans CYO sports leagues, including volleyball, basketball, football and cabbageball.

Another important aspect of CYO is the group's participation in archdiocesan youth events like World Youth Day and Abbey Youth Fest, and an annual summer mission trip to San Antonio, TX.

Our CYO also periodically participates in trips like NCYC, and March for Life.  These events allow St. Clement's teens to meet and be encouraged by their peers, not only in the New Orleans area, but all over the country!
